Feedback

What suggestions do you have to improve ConnectCarolina? The feedback given here will be used to assist the Users Forum in prioritizing communication with ITS.

Faculty, staff, and students are now in the same forum (due to outrageous pricing demands by UserVoice). Our apologies, we’re working on a better solution.

How can we improve ConnectCarolina?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

    • Student: Allow users to see their registration time on the main Student Center page.

Right now, the only way for a student to see their registration time is to go to the detailed Enrollment Appointment page, which is confusing. Putting the time as well as the date on the main Student Center page would make the system less confusing,

      • Faculty: Improve Consistency Across Screens

In some places, clicking on student's name opens an email to the student- in this case,to get more information about the student, you must click "View Student Details".
Other places, clicking on the student name brings up individual information about the student (and there is no "View Student Details" button.)
Another example: There are at least two ways under "Self Service" to search for classes...>Search>Class Search or >Class Search>Class Search... they have different navigation and results.

          • Student: We need an effective Grade Summary report

As a Program Officer who administers grants and fellowships for students, we relied on the StudentCentral grade summary to save students the cost to purchase transcripts. Now with ConnectCarolina students have to print a separate page for EVERY SINGLE semester they have been enrolled to provide the same data we used to get in the old system. I would think it would be really easy for the team to create a simple academic summary report that includes the titles and grades of all courses taken, the semester they were taken, AND the GPA/Hours Taken and other cumulative stats.

              • Faculty: Include "Program" and/or "Plan" when Searching for Student

Currently, when searching for information about a specific student, it is difficult to identify the particular student. If the student has a common name (or you only have a last name), it is difficult identify him/her based on what is currently provided. Providing "Plan" and/or "Program" (major) would help. This is a much better use of space than, say, what is currently provided: "National ID" (almost always USA) or Campus ID (almost always blank).....
The issue occurs in "My Advisees", or anywhere you search for students.

                • Student: Log out simpler

Not have to hit log-out 2-3 times on two separate windows to actually log out of Connect Carolina. This is not good computer security.

                    • Faculty: Logout complicated.

The system asks several times whether I want to log out. The 2nd time, it gives me an option (yes/no). Hitting "no" however brings me eventually back to the original schedule "Logout" without any other options. What's the point? One layer of "do you want to log out" should be enough.

                      • Staff: Need a place to see all of the grade rosters for your department

It would be good to have a place where you can view the grade rosters for all the courses in your department without needing proxy access to the faculty center.

                        • Staff: Make updates to applications immediate so we can complete what needs to be done.

When we update information (like waive a rec. letter), make updates immediate so we can continue doing what we have to with that application. It is frustrating to have to wait 24+ hours to make a final decision on an application.

                            • Why do we have to request reports to be run from the Registrar's Office?

I was able to view program-specific information in SIS that is not available in ConnectCarolina. I was able to view all the students enrolled in the program, their year in the program, and whether they were active, registered, on leave, etc.In ConnectCarolina to accomplish this task I either have to send numerous emails to the Registrar's Office so they can figure out exactly what it is I'm looking for or go through each student individually. Both of these scenarios are extremely time-consuming and increase the opportunity for errors. The process was more user-friendly in SIS. It is very hard to…

                              • default number of credits different from the minimum

For courses with variable # of credits e.g. Topics 590 for 1-21 credits), the default is the minimum, which results in many students registering for 1 credit when they should register for 3 credits.
Ideally departments should be able to set defaults by section for such courses, but being able to set 3 as a default would already save a lot of staff time in fixing student's mistakes.

                                • Staff: Better explain restrictions on courses in the course information or in the error message

Students often receive vague error messages, such as "requisites have not been met." Students don't understand what this means. A more straightforward explanation for the restriction (this course is restricted to majors, or first-year students, etc.) would be helpful for students and help avoid confusion. Advisors receive many inquiries from students when they don't understand the error message they are receiving.

                                      • Staff: In roster, student's academic plan should be appropriate to the semester.

e.g. COURSE XXX in Fall 2011 is restricted to majors. The roster shows a student's plan as a non-major. Why did s/he get in? Well, in the Fall s/he WILL be a major. However, when looking at our roster it looks like the student does not belong there.
